For this prestigious office the client required a landscape which would integrate the development into the existing landscape structure of the Science Park at Warrington.

Advanced structure planting was used to screen and segregate uses such as car parking and delivery services and to link with the existing structure planting of the Park.

Close to the buildings the planting was planned to provide year round visual interest.

On steep slopes, ground cover shrub beds were planted with grass limited to small areas on the gentle slopes. Within the shrub beds groups of light foliaged ornamental trees were planted.

In enclosed courtyards at the rear of the building detailed planting was designed to provide pleasure for those working in the offices.

In a third courtvard at the main entrance of the building the design was kept formal and simple with a grid of 16 Acer negundo ‘Variegatum’ trees and formal shrub beds on the four sides.

The adjudicators felt that the selection and quality of plants used by the contractors was excellent and did much to bring out the form of the design. The overall effect was bold strong and simple and in total harmony with the building. The execution of the work by the contractors was, in the view of the adjudicators, to the highest standard and well worthy of the Principal Award for soft land scape construction schemes and the overall BALI Fisons Grand Award for 1985.
